Creating Opportunities Through Decoration Skills

Creating Opportunities Through Decoration Skills
On 12 October 2026, Rare Vrienden officially launched a new decoration skills training programme in Kilifi, opening up opportunities for both young men and women to develop practical, marketable skills.
Participants will learn how to create flowers and coordinated floral arrangements, design podiums, organise seating arrangements and decorate event spaces. The training also covers client relations, helping participants understand the professional side of delivering services to customers.
The programme responds to a local opportunity: event decoration has a ready market, yet specialised training options in Kilifi are limited, and the courses available can be expensive for many local residents.
By making these skills more accessible, Rare Vrienden aims to equip participants with practical abilities they can use to pursue employment, take on clients or eventually establish their own businesses.
This is the second programme implemented under Rare Vrienden’s partnership funding with Wilde Ganzen, which provided a 50% grant in 2026.
For Rare Vrienden, the goal goes beyond teaching a skill. It is about expanding access to opportunity and helping young people build more independent, sustainable futures.
