Highlight of the Week: Going Beyond the Program

 Mixology & Hospitality Training

At Rare Vrienden Foundation, empowerment does not end when a beneficiary completes a course.

Earlier this week, we had the opportunity to host a Mixology & Hospitality Training event at the Rare Vrienden compound in Kilifi. The training itself was independently organized and facilitated by the hosting company and is not affiliated with Rare Vrienden Foundation.

However, we saw it as a valuable opportunity for our beneficiaries — especially the boys from our catering and hospitality group — to expand their exposure, sharpen their skills, and interact with professionals in the industry.

We encouraged interested participants from across our programs to attend, and the response was excellent.

What stood out most was that the event went far beyond learning how to mix cocktails. Participants were also trained on job interview preparation, workplace mindset, personal presentation, confidence, professionalism, and CV development — practical lessons that are often just as important as technical skills when entering the job market.

For many of our beneficiaries, opportunities like these can become turning points. Exposure matters. Networks matter. Confidence matters.

This is exactly why we continue to go beyond the standard structure of our programs whenever possible. Whether through partnerships, hosted opportunities, mentorship, or additional exposure, our goal remains the same: ensuring our beneficiaries are not only trained, but truly prepared for the realities and opportunities of the working world.

We are proud of the young people who attended, engaged actively, and represented themselves well throughout the session.

A simple hosting opportunity turned into a meaningful day of learning, growth, and motivation — and that alone made it one of our highlights of the week.
