Coconut Yogurt Value Chain Project – Kilifi
The Coconut Yogurt Value Chain Project has officially been approved for piloting, following a successful feasibility and market assessment. The study confirmed a steady supply of raw materials from smallholder coconut farmers across Kilifi, with strong potential for women-led aggregation and processing.
The project is now at the preparatory stage, focusing on:
Developing and refining yogurt prototypes
Testing product formulations
Exploring packaging and branding options suitable for both local and tourist markets
The next phase will establish a small demonstration processing unit to bring the concept to life. This phase will also include training sessions covering product hygiene, value addition, and market linkage development—empowering local women and farmers to participate meaningfully in a sustainable coconut-based value chain.
Through this initiative, Rare Vrienden Foundation aims to strengthen rural livelihoods, create employment, and unlock new income opportunities within Kilifi’s thriving coconut economy.
