Girls' Education Program
At Rare Vrienden (Friends) Foundation, we believe in the power of education to transform lives. That’s why we’ve created a sponsorship program that connects compassionate individuals with bright young girls from Kilifi who face financial challenges but show great academic promise.
How It Works
We match each girl with a sponsor—someone willing to invest not just in her education, but in her future. The sponsorship can cover a 4-year high school period or even extend into university. Sponsors from the Netherlands may also qualify for a tax deduction, adding value to their generous support.
Girls like Goldayn, now thriving at university, and Selina, focused in high school, no longer have to worry about fees or school essentials. They’re free to dream big and pursue their goals, fully supported and stress-free.
More Than Just Financial Support
This program is not just about money—it’s about mentorship, connection, and hope.
We strongly encourage regular communication between the girls and their sponsors. Through WhatsApp messages, video calls, or short greetings, meaningful bonds are formed—even with the language barrier, which is gracefully bridged by our project lead, Jonathan Mativo, who offers translation and emotional support on both sides.
To build trust and accountability, we also send out termly report cards, so sponsors can track their student’s progress and celebrate their growth.
Unrestricted Donations
For those who prefer more flexible giving, unrestricted donations are deeply appreciated. These contributions can be one-time, monthly, or structured however the donor prefers.
These funds are vital—they help with school shopping, basic needs like sanitary towels, and filling in gaps that may not be covered in individual sponsorships. They also support other initiatives across our foundation, including our community farming programs.
A Holistic Approach
While our core mission is education, we recognize that a child’s well-being begins at home. When possible, we offer light support in areas such as nutrition, home life, and emotional welfare. It’s all part of our broader vision to uplift families and plant seeds of lasting change.
